Emsella

How does Emsella work?

EMSELLA, using HIFEM® technology, induces thousands of Kegel-like pelvic floor muscle contractions in a single session. These contractions re-educate and strengthen weak pelvic floor muscles, restoring neuromuscular control and improving urinary incontinence. This high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology is used to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles. You will sit in the chair, fully clothed, while the device performs 11,000 Kegel contractions within 28 minutes. These contractions retrain and strengthen weakened pelvic floor muscles, restoring neuromuscular control to improve urinary incontinence and enhance sexual function.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN EMSELLA HELP WITH?

Emsella is a breakthrough treatment that can help with a wide range of health conditions. From incontinence to sexual dysfunction, Emsella can help you break free of the pain and discomfort caused by a weak pelvic floor so that you can move forward with more confidence.

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is the involuntary loss of urine as a result of increased intra-abdominal pressure due to effort or exertion (such as sneezing/coughing). SUI is associated with weakness in the pelvic floor muscles, impeding their ability to fully close the urethra under periods of increased pressure. The Emsella Chair enhances the performance and activity of the pelvic floor muscles, helping you achieve results faster.

Urge urinary incontinence is an involuntary leakage of urine accompanied by a sense of urinary urgency. As with any form of incontinence, urge urinary incontinence is usually related to weak pelvic floor muscles, which make it difficult for the muscles to hold on as long. The Emsella Chair targets the pelvic floor muscles. By providing contractions that are stronger than what you can achieve with pelvic floor training alone (kegels), you can see results much faster.

After giving birth, many women experience weakening or stretching of the pelvic floor muscles. This can lead to a wide range of pelvic-related health conditions, including poor bladder control, organ prolapse, or pain and discomfort in this area. Emsella can help postnatal women to regain strength in their pelvic floor muscles, enabling them to achieve better health outcomes and avoid further problems and complications down the line.

Common signs that you may have weak pelvic floor muscles or a problem in this area:

  • Involuntarily leaking urine when you exercise, laugh, cough, or sneeze
  • A frequent need to get to the toilet quickly (or not getting there in time)
  • Constantly needing to go to the toilet
  • Difficulty emptying your bladder or bowel
  • Loss of control of your bladder or bowel
  • Involuntary flatulence
  • Bulge in the vagina or a feeling of heaviness, discomfort, pulling, dragging or dropping in this area
  • Pain in the pelvic area
  • Pain during sexual intercourse

Six treatments are recommended, with one or two sessions per week, each lasting 28 minutes. Some may need more sessions than others, depending on the severity of their condition. You can either bring a friend or family member along to chat during the treatment or read a book or magazine if you would prefer. There is no downtime, no recovery time, and no limitations. You can return to work, run errands, or exercise immediately after your appointment.

One of the most frequently asked questions patients have regarding the Emsella pelvic floor treatment is whether it hurts. The great news is that Emsella is typically characterized as a painless treatment. You will experience powerful muscle contractions and some light tingling, but no anesthesia is required, no numbing creams are needed, and no recovery time is necessary. Indeed, most patients are amazed by just how comfortable and easy the treatment is.

During the Treatment

At the time of your session, do not wear metals (like zippers, jewelry, or belts) near the pelvic region because electromagnetic waves may interact with metal. Please inform us if you have any metal implants, pacemakers, copper IUD (Paraguard), or are pregnant, as these can be contraindications. Your medical history will be reviewed with our provider before your session.

To make the most of your pelvic floor chair therapy, use the following easy-to-implement tips:

  • Finish the whole treatment plan that the provider recommends
  • Be regular with follow-up or maintenance therapy if instructed
  • Embrace healthy habits, such as pelvic floor exercises, proper fluid intake, and avoiding straining when lifting or using the bathroom.
  • Discuss your progress and any concerns with the provider, so we can modify your plan if necessary.
